Sarah Clifton, M.S., Small Business Owner, Educator
I am incredibly honored to be nominated in a category with so many outstanding female leaders. I have been teaching mathematics at the college level for over 30 years and recently retired from Southeastern Louisiana University. While teaching college, I simultaneously taught group fitness throughout my entire career. As retirement approached, I launched Geaux Figure to continue teaching fitness and remain active in the educational field. The Geaux Geauxs became an integral part of Geaux Figure, redefining aging by encouraging women over 50 to stay active, engaged, and connected. Rooted in sistership and a shared focus on wellness, the group builds confidence, community, purpose through movement, and has become very important as women over 50 are in a different place in their lives: They are now caring for parents, spouses, and grandchildren.
The Geaux Geauxs have supported organizations including the Northshore Food Bank, St. Tammany Humane Society, Unite for Her, and the New Orleans Foundation. In 2025, we introduced Marching for Miles, donating funds for each mile completed during Mardi Gras season to support individuals impacted by the January 1, 2025 terrorist attack. The Geaux Geauxs also contributed to the 15th anniversary of Dancing for Dolls, an initiative I founded at Southeastern, by hosting line dance events benefiting Toys for Tots.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and a Master’s degree in Adult Education from Florida International University, which continue to inform my commitment to lifelong learning, leadership, and service. I enjoy teaching fitness classes, working with aging adults, and tutoring mathematics.
